November is the perfect time to be opening up our doors to a warm and delicious evening all about spices from around the world!

So it is with great pleasure that we welcome food historian and writer ,Priya Mani, to the shop for the launch of her groundbreaking and incredibly well researched book, Spiced: Recipes Celebrating Spices from Around the World.

Priya will take us through the fascinating world of spices, and as always, at Books & Company, when we talk about food, we serve food! So there will be an inspiring talk to listen to, beautiful visuals to indulge in, AND delicious flavors to experience.

Spices are woven into the fabric of cultures worldwide, and in this landmark volume Mani explores the extraordinary flavors and backstories of these treasured ingredients that have shaped our culinary landscape across centuries. Through essays and in-depth profiles of each of the 50 featured spices, Spiced examines botanical origins, flavor profiles, preparation, and uses in a variety of global dishes, with tips and techniques to unlock the full flavor potential of the spice pantry.

Together, 340 recipes represent classic dishes such as Risotto alla Milanese (saffron), Jollof Rice (calabash nutmeg), Massaman Curry (white cardamom), Chicken Paprikash (chile), Sumac-Roasted Chicken and Caramelized Onions (sumac), Crispy Golden Doughnuts (turmeric), Touba Coffee (grains of Selim), and Eggnog (nutmeg), alongside community-classics that reveal spices in new light.

This gorgeous book is richly illustrated with 130 specially commissioned color photographs— of finished dishes and evocative images of the spices themselves— Spiced is a visually stunning and deeply informative volume. It provides fascinating insight into the often-hidden history and origins of the spices we use daily, and inspires readers to seek out new flavors through spices, to cook, to explore and to see the world differently.
